Technology and Man.
Often and most times while growing up, I’ve seen people, especially the adults discuss and argue among themselves about the influence of technology on man. Well, if you ask me, ’does technology have a negative influence on man?’, would technology have a bad effect on humanity in the nearest future?’. I probably might say a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ which would be depending on what aspect.
Looking at it, everything has its advantages and disadvantages and this applies to technology too. The development in it has gone very far and wide with the main purpose of making life easier for men.
Domestically, almost everyone would surely attest to the usefulness of things like the dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, mower and so on. Also on agriculture machines like the tractors plays its part in making farming enjoyable for farmers. Machines on sites also aid building and construction easier and faster. There are other aspects too, but some would argue that technology has made people lazier and replaced humans in some areas, hence, bringing about unemployment.
They may be very right and might also not be, as technology is not really the cause of unemployment. Taking a look at the medical aspects, how are we to justify the fact that men might not be able to really do things these machines do like the chemotherapy, microscope, life support machines and so on?. Areas like the media, communication and information, due to technology we can sit comfortably in our home and be informed about things going on out there. Without communication devices, it won’t really sound great that people are rushing down to a scene from a distance just to know what’s going on.
Just as I mentioned earlier, everything has its good and bad use. If we glance at the academic aspect, It had really helped in making learning easy for students, but we won’t deny the fact that it has also caused great destraction. Most times you would find students doing other things that isn’t related to their studies on their phone, laptop, or at the cyber cafe.
Though it has made agriculture bearable, it has also reduced the rate at which farm workers are needed, causing unemployment. Division of labour is not really required as some farm machineries have taken over. We won’t deny the fact that it is still men that operate the machines but it has occupied greater space and opportunities for more people to be employed. This does not only apply to agriculture, it also occur in building and construction and so on.
There are other areas where technology has really helped men and also caused hindrance to them in one way or the other. So discussing about the advantages and disadvantages of it should depend on what area and instance.
